“Anger” the fourth painting in my seven stages of grief series. I wanted this painting to represent anger and the power it holds within us when we choose to embrace and harness it.
Anger is one of the most charged emotions we, as humans, can experience. It is a motivator, a revealer, a signal that boundaries have been crossed or that our needs have not been met. It is an emotion that refuses to be ignored.
While anger can certainly be harmful, violent, and impulsive, it can also protect us, set us free, and motivate us to take action. Most importantly, it allows us to shift from a state of energy turned inward and redirect that energy outward. Every element in this piece I wanted to represent the potent energy radiating out.
While working on this series, I started to notice that I was processing emotions from my most recent romantic relationship alongside each painting.
When I reached this stage, I felt anger—specifically around the cycle of reconnecting and repeating patterns within that relationship. What stood out to me was that anger was the thing that finally allowed me to break that cycle.
It gave me the clarity and motivation to remove this relationship from my life, and with that came a strong sense of relief and freedom. That experience shaped this piece and how I chose to represent anger—not as something purely destructive, but as something that can create real change.
